The Year's Three Biggest Sales Were ALL Posted This Week With One Topping $900,000

The Year's Three Biggest Sales Were ALL Posted This Week With One Topping $900,000

The last couple of weeks we've been wondering if buyers fromChina would return in force after their Chinese New Year's break. With the kinds of domains they prefer (short .com acronyms and numeric domains) largely missing from our charts in February it looked questionable. But with NameJet releasing all of their February sales this week - and some other venues chiming in with solid sales - it became obvious that a lot of those kinds of names were being sold throughout the month (domains that are being seen on the chart for the first time this week). That is a very good sign.
In fact the year's three biggest sales to date were all reported this week, led by a blockbuster $929,000 sale of TP.com via NameJet. It was followed by two more sales that totaled nearly half a million dollars - Clash.com at $250,000 in a private transaction and Lawn.com at $240,000 via NameJet.

Two more six-figure sales rounded out the first five on our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart - TotalCare.com at$120,000 and Youi.com at $100,000 (both in private transactions). The leader board also includes eight ever popular3-letter .coms led by a pair that tied for #8 at $53,000 each -ABU.com via NameJet and GFN.com through ErwanKina.com. Those helped the .coms sweep 18 of the 20 chart entries.

The two non .com sales were also ultra short and highly valued. In fact #6 C.gl at $85,000 viaFlippa was the highest ccTLD sale reported so far this year (.gl is the country code forGreenland). The other big winner from the non .com group was #13 NK.net at $37,300 through NameJet.
In addition to all of these sales, George Kirikos of Leap.com dug up a couple of big ones from late 2015 by going through a corporate SEC filing and a WIPO case this week. One of those was amonster deal involving the sale of CancerInsurance.com to Tranzact that could earn the seller as much as $7.9 million! the passage George uncovered said, "The purchase price included cash of $1.1 million and a liability of $2.0 million for contingent consideration that is payable if EBITDA exceeds amounts defined in the purchase agreement between November 6, 2016 and May 6, 2018. The maximum amount of the contingent consideration is $6.8 million." If it reaches the max, that amount added to the $1.1 million already paid should give the seller avery comfortable retirement!
With the final number for CancerInsurance.com still in flux we can't chart that sale but were able to add another one George found to our 2015 Top 100 Chart (where it ranks #36). A WIPO decision he reviewed revealed that Halifax.com has been sold for $175,000 in September. Unfortunately for the company who bought it, they would up losing the name in this UDRPproceeding. As always, our thanks to George for uncovering these important transactions as he has done with others many times in the past.
Now back to this week's chat activity. Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016:

Company makes defensive registrations for new products.
echo dotAmazon.com announced its new Echo Dot today, a smaller and stripped down version of its Amazon Echo. Of all of the smart home devices we have in our house (and we have a LOT), the Echo is by far the most used. Rick Schwartz Sells 997.com

Rick Schwartz Sells 997.com

Rick Schwartz has sold the three number .Com domain name 997.com for an undisclosed price.
Although the price was not disclosed Rick did tell TheDomains.com that the “sale is several times larger than the largest current sale of the year.”

According to DNjournal.com, the top sale of 2016, as of publication is BGI.com which sold for $235,000.
Rick went on to tell me; “The sale will bring my total numerical sales to an amount closing in on $4 million in the last seven months.”
“What is noteworthy is at the beginning of 2015 I announced that I would sell my entire numerical portfolio for approximately $3.5 to 5 million. ”
“It seems we are trending a little higher since most of my portfolio is still intact, which includes three number domains (NNN.com) four Number domains (NNNN.com) and number and letter domain.”
“The NNN market is still alive and well and still strong.”
Rick also tells me he has “several more deals in the fire”
We reported since September 2015, that Rick sold the domain name 899.com for $801,000,989.com for $818,181.81, and four numeric domain names for $1.325 Million.
I checked the whois today and surprisingly the domain name did not move to a Chinese registrar but it under privacy at Enom.com.
Congrats to Mr. Schwartz
